The Arts enable students to develop their creative and expressive capacities by learning about the different practices, disciplines and traditions that have shaped the expression of culture locally, nationally and globally.

Students are both artist and audience in the Arts. They make, respond and learn to appreciate the specific ways this occurs in different disciplines including the performing arts and the world of visual representation and expression.

The Arts includes Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design.

10 Drama

  • Refine your performance and acting skills

What will I learn?

In this class you will further develop your acting, performance and stagecraft skills through scripted and devised performances. You will explore how drama can communicate perspectives, emotions and social issues while developing confidence as a performer.

What will I do?
  • Develop characters and performance techniques
  • Rehearse and perform dramatic works
  • Explore theatrical conventions and styles
  • Analyse and respond to performances
  • Collaborate with others to create original performances

10 Media

  • Develop advanced media production skills
  • Create media for specific audiences and purposes
  • Explore the impact of media in contemporary society

What will I learn?

In this class you will build on your media production skills and create more sophisticated media projects. You will investigate how the media shapes opinions, communicates messages and reflects social and cultural issues.

What will I do?
  • Plan, produce and edit media projects
  • Explore photography, film, animation and digital media production
  • Use industry-style production processes
  • Analyse media messages and audience responses
  • Present and evaluate media works

10 Music

  • Refine your performance and composition skills
  • Explore advanced musical concepts and styles
  • Develop your own musical identity

What will I learn?

In this class you will strengthen your performance and composition skills while exploring a variety of musical styles and genres. You will learn how music communicates ideas and emotion and develop greater confidence as a performer and creator.

What will I do?
  • Perform and rehearse music individually and collaboratively
  • Compose and arrange original music
  • Use music technology and recording software
  • Analyse music from different cultures and time periods
  • Present performances and creative projects

10 Visual Arts

  • Refine your artistic skills and creative ideas
  • Develop personal and meaningful artworks
  • Explore how art communicates ideas and perspectives

What will I learn?

In this class you will build on your existing art skills and develop more resolved and independent artworks. You will explore how artists respond to social, cultural and personal issues while developing your own artistic style and creative voice.

What will I do?
  • Create and refine artworks using a variety of materials and techniques
  • Develop and resolve personal creative projects
  • Analyse and evaluate artworks and artistic practices
  • Document and reflect on your creative process
  • Participate in critiques and exhibitions

10 Visual Communication Design

  • Develop creative solutions to real-world design problems
  • Refine your digital and manual design skills
  • Prepare for senior Visual Communication Design studies

What will I learn?

In this class you will build on your understanding of visual communication and design thinking. You will respond to design briefs, create visual solutions for specific audiences and purposes and strengthen your skills using both manual and digital design methods.

What will I do?
  • Respond to design briefs and client needs
  • Create branding, advertising and promotional materials
  • Develop and refine design concepts
  • Use industry-standard design processes and conventions
  • Present and evaluate design solutions

10 Music - Certificate II in Music Industry

  • Perform a range of tasks in the Music Industry
  • Develop skills as a musician or producer
  • Use Music Technology and be involved with live music events

Year Level: 10

What will I learn?

The Certificate II in Music prepares students to perform a range of tasks in the music industry, using practical elements and fundamental operational knowledge in environments that require foundational skills in music performance, music making or composition, sound production or music business.

What will I do?

To achieve this qualification, you will complete 8 units of competency, which are tailored to students' particular interests.

Where can this take me?

VCE Subjects: VET Certificate III in Music Performance, VET Certificate III in Sound Engineering.

Prerequisites:

Basic music skills on your chosen instrument.
