The Arts enable students to develop their creative and expressive capacities by learning about the different practices, disciplines and traditions that have shaped the expression of culture locally, nationally and globally.
Students are both artist and audience in the Arts. They make, respond and learn to appreciate the specific ways this occurs in different disciplines including the performing arts and the world of visual representation and expression.
The Arts includes Dance, Drama, Media Arts, Music, Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design.
Drama - Performance
- Focus on theatre sports and improvisation

What will I learn?
In this class you will embody different characters as you build on your Improvisation, theatre sports and play building skills. You will explore a range of theatrical styles (traditional and contemporary) and learn how to script and block a performance.
What will I do?
- Group work, playbuilding and script work
- Practical experiences with performance (creating and appreciating)
- In-class performances and confidence building skills

Media - Film Production
- Film, edit and produce your own short films
- Learn the tools and techniques of filmmaking
- Analyse existing films to help improve your own filmmaking

What will I learn?
You will gain the essential creative skills, technical knowledge and theory that are necessary in making high-quality cinema and digital media productions. You will implement the production processes used to create your own films and analyse existing films to improve upon your own filmmaking.
What will I do?
- Make a documentary and narrative short film
- Experience filmmaking techniques, such as editing, lighting and composition
- Analyse a film of your choice

Media - Photography, Print and Online Media
- Grasp the fundamentals of digital photography and photo editing
- Design a business logo and develop your brand
- Showcase your work in print and online

What will I learn?
You will be introduced to the essential skills and technologies required in modern photography. You will learn how to use a DSLR camera and lenses for a range of purposes. Engage in photo editing, photo manipulation by learning how to use Adobe Photoshop, and Lightroom. You will develop the technical aspects of using a Digital SLR Camera including lighting and compositional concepts through narrative photography, photo compositing and commercial photography.
What will I do?
- Capture and edit a range of photos using a DSLR camera
- Tell a narrative through photography.
- Create an Album cover for a song of your choice.
- Create a commercial advertisement for a product of your choice.
- Create your own personal logo or brand for your photography business

Music - Film Music Appreciation and Production
- Explore the skills and techniques of creating Film Soundtracks
- Learn how film composers work with time., space, current research in neuroplasticity and image to create mood through music
- Develop your understanding of Music Language and key listening skills.

What will I learn?
Focus on building your key music creativity skills through learning of current trends and conventions in film soundtrack production, software, whilst developing greater understanding of music language. You will also enhance your knowledge of and performance skills on your primary instrument. An added bonus is you will gain key skills that will help your song writing and music production skills.
What will I do?
- Rehearse and perform as a soloist and as a member of a band
- Study and analyse films and their soundtracks across genres
- Create, compose and record simple film soundtracks, using software, the ‘science of sound’ and learning of its effect on emotion and how neuroscience plays a part in contemporary film soundtrack creation
- Develop a greater understanding of music language and music technology

- Perform music as a soloist and/or band member

- Design branding and graphics for clothing
- Design for street wear, music and sporting industries

What will I learn?
You will learn technical and theoretical aspects for developing a brand. By following the design process you will develop your own clothing brand including a logo, brand identity, products and packaging. You will develop technical skills within Adobe Illustrator to develop your design ideas from concept to final presentation. You will learn various technical drawing techniques and conventions used within the design industry.
What will I do?
- Design a logo and branding for a clothing line
- Design merchandise for your brand products
- Design packaging solutions for your products

VCD - Interior and Architecture
- Focus on architectural and interior design projects
- Develop technical drawing and rendering skills

What will I learn?
- Interior styles, movements and colours
- A range of different technical drawings

What will I do?
- Go on an excursion to local display homes and design a moodboard floor plan.
- Trial different hand building techniques and use a range of materials to create a 3D room model.
- Explore different technical drawings including, One and Two-Point Perspective, Planometric, Isometric and Third- Orthogonal Projection Drawings - Exterior and Interior

Visual Arts - Ceramics, Mixed Media and Sculpture
- Make functional and sculptural objects out of clay
- Use wire, plaster, paper and other creative materials to enhance your artwork
- Delve into mixed media artwork by printing, painting, collaging and layering

What will I learn?
You will gain knowledge in a variety of ceramics techniques such as wheel work, slab construction, coiling, slip casting, sgraffito and glazing. You will learn to create 3D forms using a range of sculptural materials and create a mixed media artwork by combining printing, collage, painting and other techniques.
What will I do?
- Make a vessel such as a bowl, vase, lidded jar, planter using slab construction with clay
- Make a sculpture using wire, plaster bandage and paint
- Make a mixed media artwork using paper collage, mono printing and painting

Visual Arts - Digital Art

What will I learn?
You will enjoy creative freedom in experimenting with how to create engaging and interactive artwork in the digital space. You will learn to draw and sketch using an iPad and Wacom tablet and create artworks using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Animate.
What will I do?
- Draw a vector portrait and cityscape in Adobe Illustrator
- Manipulate and combine a range of photos to create engaging artworks
- Make an animated gif in Photoshop
- Create an animation in Adobe Animate

Visual Arts - Drawing, Painting and Printmaking
- Draw the human form, still life and other things you thought you couldn’t

What will I learn?
You will learn how to draw and paint, using a variety of methods and media to produce creative artworks. Explore the way artists have worked throughout history, using the art elements and principles and consider how they can influence your work. You will gain knowledge of traditional methods of printmaking.
What will I do?
- Produce a folio of drawings using different media such as pencil, ink, paint etc
- Use artist quality materials to produce artist quality work including painting and printmaking
- Examine and analyse influential artists and artworks that relate to your artwork
